The Jacobean Gatehouse
The South Lodge is a Jacobean Revival gatehouse, and perhaps the most characterful property on the Balcarres Estate. Its period detail is intact — stone mullions, original joinery, the proportions of a building that was built to impress — but the interior has been furnished with an ease that makes it feel thoroughly liveable.

Each of the two bedrooms has its own bath. The Witt & Berg 1700mm full Nickel tub anchors the principal bathroom with quiet authority, its polished finish catching the light from windows that look out directly onto the estate's historic Golden Gates — salvaged from shipwreck on the orders of a former Earl, and still standing at the end of the south drive.
